Details: | EPA Region 10 received a complaint about a RV Park located on private property at 3700 Hagers Grove RD S, Salem. The complaint was "Employee of the campground has a clean out trap hooked up to their sewer line. Then they have a drinking water line going from the trap to the drinking water line. There is no siphon preventer or back flow preventer on the line. So, the sewage is contaminating the drinking water. This has been going on now for the past 1 to 2 years now. My spouse and countless others have gotten very sick from this. I myself have told them that they cannot have it hooked up like that". Marion County only licenses a few of the RV spots at this address and it is not a public water system. DWS reached out to the City of Salem about potential backflow issues, and they noted there is a 1.5” RP backflow assembly at that address for premise isolation and it was last tested on 4/15/2024 and passed. Marion County reached out to the property owner and informed them of the complaint. The owner noted the cleanout device has a built-in vacuum breaker device and is designed to be used in line with the waste line to prevent buildup in the tank. He said the water is only turned to the cleanout device when the waste tank needs to be emptied. There is not constant water pressure on the vacuum breaker. Also confirmed that the property has multiple backflow preventers installed. The property is meant for temporary recreational use but has many residents living on site year-round. |
