| Details: | Level 2 Coliform Investigation 10.29.2025 - A site visit was conducted to identify the cause of the recent total coliform samples collected between September and October. Based on the results of the investigation and any other available information, the possible cause of the resent total coliform positive samples is likely due to failure to monitor and replace chlorine supply. It was noted during the site visit that the sodium hypochlorite pump (chlorine pump) was not injecting disinfectant solution and the chlorine level in the tank was very low. Inspection of the line showed that there was loss of prime (airlock) in the pump head and discharge line, resulting in a temporary cessation of chlorination. Chlorine levels measured at the entry point and at other locations within the distribution system were at 0.0 ppm. Corrective actions: The chlorine pump was immediately re-primed (by manually venting the air from the pump head) to restore chlorine injection into the storage tank. The chlorine injection valve was adjusted to increase the chlorine dosage. The operator was strongly advised to carefully monitor chlorine levels in the day tank, keep records of when chlorine is added to the tank and when the chlorine pump dose is adjusted. The operator was also reminded that the water system must maintain a detectable disinfectant residual throughout the distribution system and ensure free chlorine levels at the entry point are kept at least at 0.2 ppm. No additional corrective actions required at this time. |
