| Details: | At about 1:19 PM on 12/23/25 I received a call from Gary Van Der Veen (971-241-7785, derveeng@yamhillcounty.gov) with Yamhill County letting me know that Waterlab (503-363-0473) reached out to him to let him know that a routine coliform sample for the Baker Creek Water Association was E. coli positive. I called Kelly Sheppick (971-404-4179) and spoke with her about taking a total of 4 samples as soon as possible. I explained that 3 of the repeat samples should be taken in the distribution system, with 1 sample taken from the site of the original positive sample, 1 taken within 5 connections upstream, and the 3rd sample within 5 connections downstream of the original positive site - all 3 to be marked "repeat" on the lab reporting form. The 4th sample should be taken from the Baker Creek Spring and marked "Triggered Source Assessment" on the lab reporting form. I recommended they inspect the spring and tank to look for signs of damage like a fallen tree or for ways that rodents could get in. I said that some systems will issue a precautionary boil water notice when heading into a holiday or weekend and if there were circumstances that indicated a risk of contamination, but that until the result was confirmed, then a boil water notice would not be required. She said that she would be able to take samples to the lab tomorrow (12/24) and that Waterlab would be able to notify them of results on 12/25/25. I emailed some resources on coliform bacteria and the boil water notice template should the results come back positive. I also provided her my work cell number (971-200-0288, evan.e.hofeld@oha.oregon.gov) and emailed the after-hours emergency number (503-704-1174) to call on 12/25 if the results confirmed the E. coli results. 12/24/25 Update -Dan (503-956-0588) called to report 2 of the 4 samples were rejected, but the source and the last connection sample were accepted. Boil water notice needed if any are positive. System has shock chlorination procedures. |
