Details: | I took part in a conference call with Gary, Wayne, Jim Newton and Max Hamblin of Crook County. We discussed my letter of April 12, 2018 and the initial response from operators at the water system. I clarified, as best I could, that DWS acknowledges the steps taken to this point and is sympathetic regarding the cost of a new or repaired well. But DWS rules do not allow for disinfection at wells which do not meet construction standards and are contaminated with E. coli. I stated that the DWS position is that the existing well must be repaired or replaced with a well that meets construction standards. Jim Newton, recently hired as a consultant, stated he needs to review well construction and sample results to determine whether repair of the existing well is more cost effective than construction of a new well. Jim asked if DWS would grant an additional 60 days to determine the best course of action. I stated that I believed an additional 60 days is not unreasonable to determine how to repair or replace the well to prevent contamination. Gary also confirmed that there is only one waterline to the first user at the water system, commonly referred to as the "farmhouse" and the waterline does not come from the reservoir so the boil water advisory will remain in place until the well construction is resolved or an additional cistern is installed to provide contact time for the first user. | ||
