Details: | No corrective action plan was submitted by the November 27 due date for the E. coli contamination in their current spring source. Kelly had previously communicated their intent to switch to another water source (an existing drilled well) as their proposed action, and that Bandon Well and Pump had cleaned out this drilled well, run a pump test, etc. Kelly had been in communication with both Kent Downs of Curry Community Health and myself, but had not provided dates. After speaking on the phone today, I sent Kelly an email with the 3 steps that I understood make up their action plan. I asked him to provide the proposed dates by which each would be completed. These steps are: 1. Collect arsenic, coliform, and nitrate samples from the drilled well (CURR 52912) and forward those results to me. The lab forms should not list the public water system number since this well is not presently part of the water system. 2. Assuming those results are satisfactory, they will switch from the spring to the drilled well as their drinking water source. The test results in #2 above would then be entered into the database for this source. 3. Disconnect all lines from the previous water source with an air gap, not just a valve. I asked Kelly to let Kent and I know when these tasks had been completed so we can update the information in the Drinking Water database. The new source will have to remain an "unapproved" source because no one can find the original well log from ~1964 documenting how the casing was sealed. The drilled well is likely still a better source than the spring (which is directly influenced by surface water). Future sampling for coliform and nitrate will show whether there are any water quality problems with the new source. Another task they face is to fix the seal on their below ground storage tank ("cistern"), but that is separate from this corrective action plan which addresses the EC+ in their current source ("spring"). |
