Details: | SUMMARY: Positive total coliform routine sample collected 4/7/2006. DETAILS: 4/10/2006, Sibyl called to report a positive total coliform routine sample collected 4/7/2006. 4/11/2006, I spoke with Sibyl and found out that Alpine Pump had recently disconnected their 5000 gallon storage tank because it was crumbling and rusting out the bottom. They added a new pressure tank instead and are now running chlorinated water through the system without contact time. Sibyl believes the coliform problem comes from the chlorinator being set too low and Alpine pump has now adjusted the feed pump to a setting of 3.5. Sibyl reported a free chlorine residual of 0.5 mg/L today and collected the required 4 repeat samples yesterday. I briefly reviewed the systems options for compliance with contact time requirements (new storage tank, refurbished storage tank, oversized in-ground piping or UV light) and also reviewed procedures for determining chlorine is for residual maintenance only. Sibyl mentioned that finances for system improvements are a challenge. I will put Sibyls options for compliance in writing and will ask for a written corrective action plan from her. ACTION NEEDED: Await results of repeat samples and follow-up accordingly. KK will send letter to the system outlining compliance options for contact time requirements. Sibyl will collect five routine samples for May. |
