Details: SUMMARY: Operator reports free chlorine residual>4.0 ppm DETAILS: The operator called me at about 9 am today to report that the potable water treatment system chlorinator pump failed in the open position at about 7 pm 2/11/08. The free chlorine residual reading at the reservoir was greater than 4.0 ppm from approx. 7 pm until about 11 am 2/12/08. Users were potentially exposed to this water during that time. The pump has been repaired/replaced - the free chlorine residual at the reservoir was 3.0 ppm at 11 am today and 1.0 ppm at noon today. The operator states she will ensure that the minimum CT is met as the residual is adjusted.The operator states the water available to users during the time the chlorinator pump was being repaired/replaced was from the reservoir and had met the CT requirements. The system has been backwashed to flush out water with excessive chlorine levels. The operator posted public notice this am regarding the>4.0 ppm free chlorine residual. The public notice is attached. ACTION NEEDED: none
