| Details: | SUMMARY: Review Sodium Permanganate Feed System DETAILS: Systems source has a history of seasonal problems with high manganese levels. High levels has manifested in complaints about colored water, ruined laundry and general customer dissatisfaction with the city’s water appearance and perceived quality. Past engineering studies have recommended the use of sodium permanganate (NaMnO4) for oxidation of manganese in their raw water. Operations staff has taken actions needed to procure this material for use late this month. HBH was requested to review point of chemical application and dosage calculations. I assed previously engineered reports and sodium permanganate information. I made a site visit and reviewed-- Overall process and potential impacts on manganese removal-- Solids-contact (up-flow) Clarifier process control-- Sodium permanganate dosage and monitoring information provided by manufacturer-- Proposed point of application and feed equipment. I provided pump calibration spreadsheet and conversion graphs. ACTION NEEDED: Operational staff will make contact with HBH if further assistance is needed. | ||
