Details: | SUMMARY: Contacted regarding plan to install arsenic treatment system. DETAILS: Talked to Duane Young about the plans for an arsenic treatment system. Duane indicated that the plans were completed back in October and that the costs were to expensive for the city. Contacted Rob Henry of HBH Engineering for a copy of the plans. The plans were sent and indicate that Media Absorption would be the best treatment method (see file for Arsenic Removal memo). Since the system and annual operational costs are higher than what the city can afford, the water system is going to evaluate drilling a new well or connecting to an existing well in the shallower aquifer. If the water in the new well is lower than the MCL, then Well #3 would be disconnected and water from the new well would be used to blend down the concentration of arsenic from the other two wells. Duane Young was informed that he should try an evaluate new/existing wells in the shallow aquifer for arsenic. If the concentration for arsenic is below the MCL, then samples for other parameters (e.g., nitrate, coliform, etc.) could be collected and analyzed. If the results do not indicate the presence of any other water quality issues then blending may be a suitable option for treatment. ACTION NEEDED: Submit a plan for the evaluation of a new/existing well and blending as a treatment option. | ||
