Details: Rick called. A routine sample collected on Monday, September 14th at Site #22 was total coliform positive. Since it is Friday, he plans to collect the three repeat samples at upstream, downstream and original sites and a combined source sample next Monday, September 21st. He noted heavy smoke conditions in the area due to wildfires. He will notify me when follow-up sample results are available to discuss if further action is needed.

On Friday, September 25th, Joel Gehrett and Rick Moon called to inform me that the upstream repeat sample collected on September 21st at 6305 LaSalle Lane was total coliform positive. The combined source sample was absent. The positive coliform samples were in the same area as the coliform positives in August. An old waterline from the 1940s running parallel to existing piping may be the issue. Corrective action planned includes isolating and capping the old waterline. The affected area including the tank farm will be chlorinated and flushed. We discussed additional sampling to further isolate the affected area. The September coliform positive samples triggers a level 2 investigation that will be performed during the water system survey scheduled for October 7th.

I spoke to Joel Gehrett on Oct 26th. Additional sampling and isolation of main tanks confirmed main tank #4 as total coliform positive. Samples collected from the other main tanks and at select distribution sites were coliform absent. He suspects the main tank #4 is connected with recent coliform issues. A documented timeline of events was provided. DVWD plans to drain the isolated main tank #4 for inspection and cleaning, followed by sampling to evaluate correction of coliform issue. On Oct 29th, I received an email from Joel that the main tank #4 had been cleaned and partially filled. Additional samples collected were coliform absent.
