Details: | SUMMARY: Multiple contaminants in water supply wells DETAILS: The City of Adrian owns and operates 5 wells-- three of the wells are currently in use to supply the City with water. The system serves 185 people through 90 connections. The City wells are pulling water from an aquifer that has elevated levels of iron, manganese, ammonia, methane and hydrogen sulfide. Since the levels of iron, manganese and ammonia fluctuate throughout the year, this causes the chlorine residual to fluctuate as well. This is very difficult to achieve with out a PLC to monitor the levels and make adjustments to the chlorine feed system. Methane is a major concern for safety issues. The wells likely have low levels of methane but accidents have occurred at the well sites. I spoke with the City by telephone and completed preliminary research into the options available for improved treatment and/or new supply. ACTION NEEDED: Review further chemical results and recommend treatment or new supply options. |
