Details: | SUMMARY: Testing new arsenic treatment system before going online DETAILS: Duane took a routine coliform test last week and was unsure whether it should be marked as a chlorinated sample on the form. In the future, the answer is yes, but in this case the water he collected had not passed through the new Arsenic treatment system (therefore no chlorine exposure). So he will contact the lab to try to rectify that item. Also, for his own information, he recently took two "special" arsenic samples of: a) water that originated only from Well 1 and had gone through the new treatment-- and b) water originating only from Well 2 after treatment. He had to drain the arsenic treatment tanks in between so that the well water would be separate. When he gets those results back, he will feel ready to put the treatment online for the whole system. I emphasized that once online, he will need to: a) collect arsenic samples at the entry point (to reflect the water blended from whatever wells are pumping), and b) measure and record the chlorine levels (which could be negligible) at the time of his routine coliform samples. ACTION NEEDED: Determine which treatment codes to add to DWS database once the arsenic treatment goes online for the whole system. Let Duane/Paisley know that, in addition to recording the chlorine level with their routine coliform samples, they will also need to start collecting one raw source sample per calendar year because their distribution samples will now have received a form of chlorine treatment. |
