Details: | Spoke to Michael about possible algae bloom in Rickreall Creek. Citizen reported to the city seeing what appeared to be algae in the creek where it runs through the Dallas City Park in town. Algae observed floating on the surface, along the shoreline, and green tinge in the creek bed (photos provided to OHA by Michael). The park is downstream of the city's surface water intake for the drinking water treatment plant, so I referred him to our recreational program for information on testing and advisories if needed. I asked Michael to inspect Rickreall Creek upstream of the city's intake as well as the reservoir that feeds the creek (Mercer Res.) for signs of algae/cyanobacteria bloom and to let me know if he sees something; we can then talk about cyanotoxins testing through our voluntary monitoring program. |
