Details: | SUMMARY: Discussed future actions related to DBP concentrations DETAILS: Jim and I discussed our mutual expectations for the process to reduce DBP concentrations at the Weiss Estates water system. I clarified that DWS does recognize Weiss Estates is taking action to resolve the situation but also want to ensure the situation is resolved as quickly as possible. Jim assured me that those responsible for the water system are working diligently to resolve the situation. We discussed the possibility that September DBP samples did not accurately reflect water quality because the operator was continuing to adjust and lower the chlorine application after the samples were collected. After discussing the matter with other DWS personnel, I informed Jim that DWS will not take any action until after receipt of the December DBP samples and requested samples be collected at the beginning of the month. Generally, I conveyed that DWS does its best to cooperate with water system operators so long as progress is being made and water quality concerns are taken seriously. The conversation also touched upon water treatment, a feasability study, operations and the potential for a groundwater source. ACTION NEEDED: Review December sample results and determine next steps. If samples exceed the MCL proceed with executing a settlement or continue to monitor the situation if results are below the MCL and thus essentially in compliance with the 2015 administrative order and extension. |
