Details: | SUMMARY: GENERAL ASSISTANCE DETAILS: The Weiss Estates Water System is a community surface water system which serves 27 people through 21 connections. The system is located near Bandon in Coos County. The source water is Fahy’s Lake. The raw water is treated by a Seccua membrane water treatment plant. The plant was constructed in 2011The water system has been in contact with the Circuit Rider due to persistent disinfection byproduct (DBP) issues. It had been determined by Jay Macpherson that the next logical step to deal with the high DBP levels is to perform a tracer study. Based on the configuration of the contact vessels, it is apparent that the contact time is sufficient for disinfection. It should be noted that DBPs are high even during the summer months, where the contact time would be shorter. But, they are significantly higher in the non-summer months. It has been proposed that the water system change the chlorine injection point to shorten the contact time. A contact tracer test would need to be completed once these changes are complete. Provided update on Weiss Estates situation to the IFA and OHA staff. The water system could possibly benefit from some funding assistance through the SDWRLF or another IFA source. ACTION NEEDED: Coordinate with water system to determine the location for new chlorine injection. Complete tracer study methodology and perform testing. Continue to assist with DBP formation issues. |
