Details: | SUMMARY: Arsenic over the MCL DETAILS: Contacted Duane Young regarding the result of the arsenic samples that were collected on April 10 and 13, 2017. The April 13th sample was collected by Drinking Water Services during a site visit on the same day. The water system was running the treatment system at the time of the visit and the residual free chlorine after treatment was measured at 1.05 mg/L and the Fe was measured at 1.93 mg/L. Since the treatment system was running and adequate treatment chemicals were being added to the water prior to filtration, the high arsenic value is an indication that the treatment system was not being properly operated. Mr. Young was informed that most likely cause of the high aresenic was the result of inadequate backwashing. Mr. Young indicated that on April 17 and 18, 2017, the OAWU circuit rider was onsite and backwashed the system multiple times and the system is set to backwash for 5 minutes every 12 hrs. OAWU informed Mr. Young that since the filters have been properly backwashed, the arsenic levels in the treated water should now be below the MCL. In order to determine if the arsenic level is below the MCL, the City of Paisley collected and submitted another sample for testing on April 18, 2017. ACTION NEEDED: Properly operate the arsenic treatment system so that the water produced from wells 1, 2, and 3 is below the MCL for arsenic. The system also needs to continue posting public notice for the exceedance of arsenic. | ||
