Assistance Type: | OTHER REGULATORY - Superfloc C-573 coagulant currently out of stock | ||
Reasons: | Operations |

Details: | 07.12.21 - I met with the operator, Brenda and Carlos. During our conversation Brenda informed me that they no longer use Superfloc C-573 as a Coagulant. Apparently she was told that this product is a type of quaternary ammonium used primely as a sanitizer and should not be used as a coagulant. They discontinued the use of this product immediately and are planning to install a UV reactor. According to the NSF information I found on Superfloc C-573, there is no indication that would corroborate that the primary use of this chemical is for sanitizing purposes. It is certified as a coagulant/flocculant. I advised Brenda to contact with our plan review coordinator - Jay, to discuss alternatives and to determine if plan review is needed for the UV system. 08.04.21 - Brenda contacted Jay. She was advised to search for coagulant suppliers in the PacNW and was provided with options that have been used by other water systems. She was also advised to ask for Superfloc C-573 when seeking information instead of asking for a Polymeric Quaternary Amine. If chemical suppliers don't have the small volumes of Superfloc C-573 they need, they should ask for information on who buys it so the system can ask other buyers for a small amount. Regarding the UV reactor, the system has a Viqua Pro50 UV reactor which is on the DWS list. Jay informed Brenda that no plan review is needed if no treatment credit is desired. The system currently has sufficient treatment to comply. |
