Details: | 10.20.2021-Jonathan Woody, the new DRC for RRSA contacted me to inquire the following: if the UV system is down for any reason, can the operator increase the log removal to 1.0 on their SWTR excel reporting sheet until UV repairs are made? The answer is Yes. The system should certainly use 1.0 log giardia inactivation on their monthly SWTR excel reporting sheet, not 0.5 log. Actually, even after repairing the UV reactor, the system was advised to achieve 1.0 log giardia inactivation at all times using chlorine, that way when the UV system goes down, they won’t be out of compliance. The water treatment plant at Rainbow Rock Water Association was granted 2.0 log giardia removal credit, not 2.5. The requirement is to achieve a total of 3.0 log removal/inactivation of giardia. In other words, 1.0 log inactivation by chlorine disinfection is all they need to meet the required 3.0 log requirement. The UV reactor was installed to provide max treatment (5.5 log) and thus avoid LT2 source sampling requirements, so it is acting more like an extra layer of protection. The system may continue using the UV reporting form (when the UV system is working) along with the other two pages in the monthly SWTR monitoring form (excel spreadsheet). |
