Details: SUMMARY: OSH Complaint (2 of 2 pages) DETAILS: (Continued from previous report): Complainant has seen several signs posted warning about asbestos and asbestos abatement activities going on with the old hospital tear-down. I advised that asbestos in drinking water is only a concern when there are asbestos (A/C) pipes in the system, and the A/C pipes are cracked or damaged. He understands that the city does not have any A/C pipes in the distribution system-- however he is concerned because he has seen pipes on the facility grounds that he believes are wrapped in asbestos. I told him that wrapped pipes are less of a concern because asbestos in wrapping cannot migrate through pipes into the water and that intact pipes with undamaged asbestos wrap are not likely to cause contamination of the system. Complainant indicated he would talk to the private lab about drop off/pick up and said that he appreciated the information I provided. ACTION NEEDED: The city and Drinking Water Program have no jurisdiction past the service meter, therefore we can only continue to help the complainant by providing information and advice as needed.
