Details: SUMMARY: high turbidity from wells DETAILS: David Pace called Deb Lambeth this morning to tell her that the turbidity from their wells went up to 17 NTU Monday night. By this morning (Tuesday) the level had dropped to 0.3 NTU. They have a lot of storage in the system, so it might take a while to get the turbid water out. She discussed chlorine residuals, and Dave told her that they have remained normal. He was going to take bacti samples from each well (they just practice residual maintenance), as well as in the distribution system. Later Brian called, before talking to David, with similar questions. He said the chlorine residual was normally 0.2 ppm, but they decided to bump it up to 0.35 ppm. I told him itd be ok to go higher, especially if it started to fluccuate. They are short-staffed right now and may not be able to flush or check residuals more often than once per day, but will try. He will let us or county know if coliforms are detected. ACTION NEEDED: await results. Note that GWUDI evaluation determined hydraulic connection, but sources were declared Groundwater. Turbidity is generally not considered a good indicator of surface water influence, but in the case of a sudden change, it may indicate a problem.
