| Details: | Portland Water Bureau called to notify DWS that the turbidity at the intake at Bull Run Headworks exceeded 5 NTU for 8 minutes today. The powerhouse was turned on after being off all summer and stirred up sediment in the diversion pool. Generally when the powerhouse is turned on, the turbidity spikes slightly to around 2 NTU. At 12:00 pm, the turbidity at headworks was 4.88 NTU. Shortly thereafter, the turbidity spiked over 5.49 NTU for 8 minutes. The water got into all 3 conduits. By 1 pm, the turbidity was 2.18 NTU. Chlorine residuals in the three conduits were between 2.6 and 2.78 mg/L. Compliance determinations are made on the 4 hour readings (12 pm, 4 pm, 8 pm, 12 am etc). The water system did not violate the NTU standard of 5 NTU. DWS made a public health determination that the incident does not represent an increased risk of pathogens and therefore a boil water advisory is not warranted. |
