Details: | 04.02.21 - Spoke with Mr. Ryan Gertken over the phone today. We discussed the next steps to address the fecal coliform contamination in the source and the need to post a boil water notice as soon as possible. Next steps: 1. Operator was instructed to post a boil water advisory notice in a conspicuous place for all employees to be aware of what is going on. Operator stated that only employees are using the water. The boil water notice must remain posted until corrective actions have been completed. Boil notice posted today. A copy of the advisory was emailed to the DWS compliance group. 2. Identify any temporary sources of contamination. The operator was instructed to inspect the faucet used for collecting the raw water sample and check for gaps between the well and the casing that may have allowed critters to enter the well. I recommended taking pictures during the inspection. 3. Verify appropriate disinfection (4-log inactivation of viruses). I provided the disinfection verification form to help the operator determine how much chlorine contact time is available before the first user. The operator can then calculate a minimum concentration of chlorine that must be maintained at all times at the first user. Additional comments: Shocking the well may also be something they should consider, especially in the event of identifying a temporary source of contamination. I provided a link to the procedure on how to shock the well. |
