Details: 08.03.21 - Rick Hallmark contacted me asking the following question:
The operator is currently using no disinfection and is prompted by bad coliform results to add a UV system. This is a ground water system and there is no question of E. coli. Does the operator have the option to use a UV unit that does not come with NSF certification?

After discussing this case with other DWS staff members, I emailed Rick and Bob, recommending the installation of a UV reactor that is NSF certified. However, at this point DWS can’t technically require an NSF 55 class A unit since they haven’t hit the DWS threshold yet for requiring treatment. I also recommended contacting Jay MacPherson to discuss plan review process before installing a UV reactor that is NSF certified.
