Details: | SUMMARY: update on tracer studies and SW requirements DETAILS: We discussed the tracer studies - explained that the point is to verify with actual measurements how much time the chlorine has in contact with water before going to consumers, under the worst case scenario. The study result will provide a benchmark for ongoing compliance with the disinfection standards for surface water tmt. He said they now have the chlorine feed pump tied to water pump at WTP-A (lower), so the dosage is proportional to flow. At the upper plant (WTP-B), our staff had the idea that he may be able to move the chlorine injection to after the current "clearwell" because they only have to demonstrate 0.5 log for Giardia AFTER filtration. He will contact Bandon Pump about how to do that. However, that may mean too little time for the chlorine to be in contact with the water to precitipate out the iron before the iron filter. Casey Lyon had suggested a hydraulic mixer if thats the case. We also discussed the daily monitoring of turbidity, chlorine residual, pH and temperature that will be required for SW treatment, and reported monthly. Vic has those meters but does not yet know how to use them all. Also discussed the need for a DRC with WT1 certification. Directed him to Dottie Reynolds of our DWS Op Cert staff. The only chemical monitoring still due for 2018 is lead and copper before 6/30/18 (the 2nd 6-mo round). ACTION NEEDED: Discussed SWTRs with Casey Lyon. We hope to obtain tracer study minute values for both WTPs in April, then fill in the contact minutes on the monthly operating reports for Vic. Hopefully he can start completing the daily monitoring for the SWTR in May. We may want to contact his office mgr Corinne (sp?) about these reports. I let Dottie Reynolds know that she will be hearing from Vic re: Treatment 1 operator certification. |
