Details: | The City of Monmouth by letter has requested DWS extend the compliance deadline of June 30, 2022 to implement changes to its corrosion control treatment. In April of 2021, the City was required to establish a minimum phosphate level at the entry point and in distribution. To meet this requirement, the City moved its Zinc Orthophosphate injection point from the Marion County facility to the 4th Street facility in hopes it would stabilize phosphate levels. However, the new site has resulted in problems with on-site pH and chlorine monitoring equipment. The Zinc Orthophosphate injection point was moved back to the Marion County facility to further evaluate the issue and to design and implement a correction. Once corrected, the City will proceed with collecting lead and copper distribution tap samples to establish appropriate phosphate minimums. The due date to complete corrosion control treatment changes will be extended to August 1, 2023. DWS requests the City provide an update on its progress to correct the issue by March 31, 2023. For more information see contact reports dated 7/1/22, 7/22/21, and 4/16/21. |
