Details: | May 30, 2025, I received an email from Brandon Ford who said he was having trouble with failing both filtration unit pressure decay tests (PDT) (aka direct integrity test (DIT)), which he believed could be due to a malfunction of the coagulation-flocculation and/or possibly butterfly valves not sealing properly. I responded that it could be due to a leaking valve or a membrane fiber breach and to check the site tubes at the top of the modules for bubbles during the direct integrity test (DIT) and to pin fibers in the modules having any air bubbles. June 4, 2025 Update - Brandon emailed that they had an air system failure yesterday which shut down the plant. He was hoping that to be the cause of the high PDT but he located the leak on an air line before the filtration units, so he ran the PDT while keeping the supply air on and raised the starting pressure to check for air leaks. He though he may have found the leak on filtration unit #2 which is related to a 1" butterfly valve on the filter unit's air system. He was also hoping to pin the leaking filter on Filtration Unit #1 to see if that was the cause but the pressure decay rate is pretty high. He also said that the application with Civil West Engineering was approved and he was scheduling a time for them to come out next week to assist with correcting the PDT. The LRV on Filtration Unit #1 (Skid #1) is currently passing while its PDR is not passing (exceeding PDRmax). Neither the LRV or the PDR on Skid #2 is passing (5 out of 6 of the filters are new on Skid #2). He was asked about anything like drill shavings that could have damaged the membranes and he said he wouldn't disregard the possibility that some drill shavings shredding the lumen but the last work/repair was around the new year give or take a month (He couldn't quite remember the exact date but offered to find the dates) so he figured if it damaged lumen then it would have been apparent a lot sooner. Action Needed - continue troubleshooting |
